快乐的小丫头

伯牙子鼓琴，锺子期听之。方鼓而志在太山。锺子期曰：“善哉乎，鼓琴。巍巍乎若太山。”少選之间，而志在流水。

锺子期复曰：“善哉乎，鼓琴。汤汤乎若流水。”锺子期死，伯牙破琴绝弦，终身不复鼓琴；以为世无足为鼓琴者。

白话翻译
伯牙先生弹琴，锺子期听他弹奏出来的曲子。伯牙先生在弹著琴的时候，心里著的是泰山。锺子期说：“您弹得真美妙啊！琴声中表达出来的意象象高峻雄伟得像泰山一样。”过了一会儿，伯牙的心思转到流水那儿去了。

锺子期又说：“您弹得真美妙啊！琴声中表达出来的感情奔腾澎湃得像流水一样。”锺子期死了，伯牙把琴摔破，把弦折断，一辈子再也不弹琴了；他认为在世上没有值得他为他弹琴的人了。（他认为在世上再没有人能领会他琴声中的含意了。

UNDERSTANDING THE MUSIC
Master Bo Ya was playing the lute; Zhong Ziqi was listening to his playing. As he was playing, Bo Ya’s mind turned to Mount Tai. Zhong Ziqi said:” How marvelously you play the lute! The sound of the lute is soaring and majestic like Mount Tai.” Moments later, Bo Ya’s mind turned to a torrent of water.

Again Zhong Ziqi said:” How marvelously you play the lute! The sound of the lute roils and surges like a torrent.” After Zhong Ziqi died, Bo Ya dashed his lute to pieces and snapped the strings. For the rest of his life he never again played the lute, for he felt that there no longer was anybody left in the world who could grasp the subtle import of his playing.
