Version I: Indeed, well known as a delicate scenic spot it is, Gulangyu boasts more with regard to its historical and cultural accumulation. Then, who shall thus be responsible to be the necessary carrier of its heritage featuring both Western and Chinese characteristics as well as its builder and advertiser from now on into the future? The answer is by any means the Gulangyu people who reside over generations on the island. However, what we saw turns out to be a sharp contrast marked by migration crowds outward and the residence policy of “Exit Only”, which account for the decrease of island population, or even up to such an extent of its quality descending. Some foreign tourists who have been long attracted by the famous “Piano Island” find them in a total surprise at their failure to hear melodious music all around the streets and alleys as that stated in the brochure. A shrink of the residence makes the leaving of musicians who skilled at playing their instruments inevitable. In fact, we have already sensed its misery and helplessness in the interview made to the female calligrapher Chen Xiuqin by Xiamen Daily journalist. Inside it is the nostalgia toward its past accompanied with a sign for the leaving families. Yet it is hopefully not to have a phenomenon where the visitors are flooding for music while the players for which are missing. Version II: Indeed, well known as a beautiful scenic spot as it is, Gulangyu boasts a unique historical culture tinted Western and Chinese. As it is commonly supposed, the sustaining, building and growth of Gulangyu culture lies in its local residents. However, what we see turns out to be large migration of crowds outward and the residence policy of “Exit Only”, which account for decreasd island population, even for its decreased population quality. Some foreign tourists who have been long attracted by the famous “Piano Island” find in a total surprise their failure to hear melodious music all around the streets and alleys as stated in the brochure. A shrink of the residence makes the leaving of musicians who are skilled at playing their instruments inevitable. In fact, we have already sensed a touch of helplessness and desolation, representative of Gulangyu locals, from the interview with Ms. Chen Xiuqin, a calligrapher and Gulangyu resident, by Xiamen Daily journalist. It is both the nostalgia toward its past and a melancholy invoked by the whole-family departure from the island. No matter what, we sincerely hope, in the future, such a scene not be true that visitors, who are attracted here by its reputation of Piano Island, only find themselves echoed by sound of desolate seas. However fine the viands(delicacies) be, if one do not eat, he does not know their taste; however perfect the course (good doctrine) may be, if one do not learn it, be does not know its goodness. Therefore when he learns, one knows his own deficiencies; when he teaches, he knows the difficulties of learning. After he knows his deficiencies, one is able to turn round and examine himself; after he knows the difficulties, he is able to stimulate himself to effort. Hence the saying, 'Teaching and learning help each other;'
