为进一步促进中加两国的文化交流,由加拿大文化遗产部、加拿大外交和国际贸易部主办、中国加拿大研究会、宁波大学加拿大研究中心承办、加拿大驻华大使馆协办的“‘共享情感,共享市场:加拿大文学在中国’研讨会暨《走下坡路的男人》汉译本首发式”于2008年9月6日在北京举行。40多位来自中加两国高校和出版机构的专家学者及政府官员参与了本次研讨会。加拿大驻华大使馆高柏灵参赞出席招待会,并对与会的两国代表表示欢迎。
《走下坡的男人》为加拿大著名小说家盖伊·范德海格所著,曾获得加拿大总督文学奖及其他多种奖项,在世界文坛具有相当影响。首发式上,浙江文艺出版社许晓芳副社长简要介绍了该社在加拿大文学引进方面的工作,表示《走下坡

其后的“共享情感,共享市场:加拿大文学在中国’研讨会”由中国加拿大研究会会长、山东大学郭继教授与加拿大渥太华大学著名文学批评家戴维·斯坦恩斯教授共同主持。南京大学傅俊教授、内蒙古大学魏莉副教授介绍了各自学校加拿大中心的运作情况,南京财经大学冯建文教授介绍了自己多年来潜心翻译加拿大文学作品的心得,北京大学丁林鹏博士宣读自己的博士论文纲要,并与与会代表进行了热烈交流,宁波大学刘继华副教授就当代加拿大文学中的“自我回归”做了分析,并代赵伐教授宣读了题为“加拿大文学在中国:为什么要欣赏与如何欣赏”的主题发言。大会发言结束后,与会代表围坐一起,以圆桌会议的方式继续热烈交流。
此次研讨会的形式多样,内容丰富。研讨会利用午间休息时间邀请了加拿大文坛新秀邓敏灵女士为读者朗诵了新作《确定》。戴维·斯坦恩斯教授为与会代表介绍了《英国人的仆童》等加拿大影片,Arjun Vinodrai先生为与会代表介绍了题为“我不是你心中的印第安人”的电影,激起了代表的极大兴趣。
本次“共享情感,共享市场:加拿大文学在中国”研讨会暨《走下坡路的男人》汉译本首发式在北京的成功举行,为中国从事加拿大研究、出版和宣传的专家学者提供了一个重要的相互交流的平台,为促进中国学者对加拿大文学的深入研究、增进两国的文化交流具有重要的意义。

A seminar named “Share the Sentiments, Share the Markets: Canadian Literature in China” was held on September 6, 2008 at BCCP, Beijing. Over 40 scholars, publishers as well as officials from both China and Canada attended the activity.
The seminar was headed by a book launch ceremony of Men Descending on the morning of the day. Written by the Canadian writer Guy Vanderhaeghe and translated by Prof. Zhao Fa and his team from Ningbo University, the book had gained much attention in the world ever since. On behalf of the Canadian Heritage, Mr. Arjun Vinodrai expressed his wish that more and more Chinese readers would read Canadian books and enjoy the cultural diversity. Prof. Liu Jihua and other translators from Ningbo University shared their feelings about the translation of the novel.
After the book launch, professors from different Canadian Study Centers in China began the discussion part on the topic of Canadian studies in China. Prof. Guo Jide from Shandong University, Prof. David Staines from Ottawa University, Prof. Fu Jun from Nanjing University, Prof. Wei Li from Inner Mongolia University, Prof. Feng Jianwen from Nanjing Finance and Economy University, and Dr. Ding Linpeng from Beijing University delivered their speeches and exchanged opinions with the audience. Ms. Madeleine Thien, a writer from Canada was also invited to the seminar and she read a part from her new book Certainty at the noon break.
The seminar was organized by the Canadian Study Center in Ningbo University and the Association for Canadian Studies in China, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Canada and the Canadian Heritage. The Canadian Embassy in China also helped organize the activity.
