1.)内蒙古大学加拿大研究中心工作简报(A Report from Canadian Studies Center at Inner Mongolia University) 在加拿大外交国际贸易部和加拿大驻华使馆的大力支持和资金资助下,内蒙古大学加拿大研究中心自2007年以来申请并获准资助的学术项目和举办的学术活动总结如下:1. 获得2007年度加拿大研究图书资助奖。2. 中心主任魏莉副教授申请并获准2007-2008年度加拿大研究发展基金项目资助。资助研究项目为“启示与借鉴:加拿大与中国内蒙古的多元文化和民族主义的对比研究”,并首次在中心成员中组建学术团队,承担该项目的研究工作;同时聘请了五位加拿大专家和两位国内专家担任该项目的学术顾问。3. 2008年3月15日,加研中心在内蒙古大学成功举办了“拥抱北京,走向温哥华”奥运畅想全国英语演讲大赛内蒙古大学预赛,并选拔预赛冠军张扬同学赴京参加决赛。 4. 2008年5月29日至6月2日,加研中心在内蒙古大学成功举办“加拿大学术周”活动,邀请加拿大专家霍华德·伍兹博士和格丽·伍兹博士来内蒙古大学做学术访问。来访专家为我校加拿大研研究中心成员﹑英语专业研究生及全校学生做了系列讲座“加拿大双语浸入式教学法与学校课程设置”﹑“加拿大华裔女作家作品研究”和“加拿大英语与美式英语和英式英语的比较”。共有400余名师生聆听了专家的精彩讲座,师生踊跃提问并与专家现场交流。外国语学院领导与来访专家进行了座谈,表达了加强与加方的学术交流与合作,拓展研究方向,增进学术友谊的良好愿望和规划。来访专家向加研中心赠送了珍贵的学术资料,就研中心目前承担的国际学术项目给予了指导,与项目组成员进行了学术讨论。 5. 加研中心成员﹑外国语学院刘瑾玉老师获得“2008年度加拿大研究专项奖”,于6月9日赴加访学。魏莉主任应邀参加使馆举行的“2008年度 加拿大研究专项奖”工作简会,并做了简短发言,着重总结了内蒙古大学加拿大研究中心自2007年以来组织的学术活动和今后的工作规划。
Thanks to the financial support of the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International trade, and the Canadian Embassy in Beijing as well, Inner Mongolia University Canadian Studies Center has successfully organized a series of activities since 2007. The projects and activities have greatly promoted Contestants and evaluation members Canadian Studies at Inner Mongolia University, which concluded as follows: 1. The center received a grant of “2007 Library Support Program” from the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International trade (DFAIT), supporting us a dozen of books for helping our Canadian studies. 2. Leading by Prof. WEI Li, director of the center, we applied for and then received a grant from the DFAIT to conduct our research project entitled “Enlightenment and Reference: A Comparative Study of Multiculturalism and Nationalism between Canada and Inner Mongolia of China”. Now, to fulfill this project, our center’s first academic team has formed, along with five Canadian experts and two Chinese experts being our consultants to supervise our project research.3. On March 15, 2008, the center organized “Inner Mongolia University’s preliminary round of English Speech Contest: Embracing Beijing and forward to Vancouver”. The speech contest attracted great attention from a large number of students at the campus. There were 13 contestants from not only Foreign Languages College but also other colleges participating in the contest. The first prize winner was Mr. Zhang Yang, a second-year non-English major, who represented Inner Mongolia University to the finals held at Beijing Foreign Studies University. 4. Invited by Inner Mongolia University Canadian Studies Center, Dr. Gurli Woods delivering a lecture Dr. Howard Woods and his wife Dr. Gurli Woods paid an academic visit to Inner Mongolia University from May 29 to June 2, 2008. And the center successfully organized “A Canadian Academic Week” during their visit. Dr. Howard Woods worked as Head of the English Program Development Division of the Canadian Federal Government’s Bilingualism Program and has headed special international projects on bilingualism and ESL, and Dr. Gurli Woods is an Associate Professor of Comparative Literary Studies and Women’s Studies at Carleton University, Canada. They delivered lectures on “Bilingual Immersion and School Curriculum Design in Canada”, “An Introduction to Chinese-Canadian Writers: Larissa Lai's Novel When Fox Is a Thousand”, and “Specific Features of Canadian English Compared to American and British English”. There were over 400 teachers and students attending their lectures. Deans Dean of Foreign Languages College of Foreign Languages College and director of the meeting with Canadian professors center had a friendly meeting with the Woods, expressing our good wishes to further mutual understanding, strengthen academic relations, and foster future collaboration. The two Canadian experts also donated valuable books to the center and had a constructive discussion with our academic team.5. Congratulations to Ms. LIU Jinyu, a member of the center and lecturer of the English Department of IMU, won 2008 SACS. On June 9, 2008, invited by the Canadian embassy in Beijing, Prof. WEI Li attended “2008 SACS Briefing” held at the embassy.
