1. 山东大学于2008年3月举办“枫叶国度——加拿大文化资源展系列活动”(Maple Leaf Country: A Series of Activities of Canadian Identity and Cultural Resources Exhibition Carried Out at Shandong University in March,2008)
在加拿大外交与贸易部提供的财政支持下,山东大学加拿大研究中心年3月成功地举办了一系列活动。该活动主题为“枫叶国度——加拿大文化资源展”,包括以下四个部分:一、加拿大文化资源展。经过努力,加研中心收集到了100余幅加拿大大学及其校徽的图片,以及近50张加拿大城市和旅游胜地的图片。展览内容包括47所加拿大综合性大学,对每一所大学都配有一张或一组图片,并根据关于这些大学的最新信息为这些图片加上了文字说明。这样,参观者们不但可以知道这些学校的形象,还可以对其有进一步的了解:如它们建立的时间、坐落在哪座城市、它们最近的招生人数以及及其在教育和科研的一些特点。根据著名的加拿大杂志《麦克林》对加拿大大学 Picture Exhibition at East Campus of SDU 的三种分类,图片展在开始的部分用图表显示了这些加拿大大学各自的排名。另外,展览还提供了一张地图来显示这些学校在加拿大的地理位置。“城市部分”展出了渥太华、温哥华、多伦多、蒙特利尔、维多利亚、埃德蒙顿、温尼伯、圣约翰斯和哈利法克斯等城市的图片,突出了2010年冬季奥运会的举办城市温哥华市。此外还展出了16幅加拿大旅游胜地的图片,其中包括班夫国家公园、尼亚加拉瀑布、千岛湖、布查特花园、炮兵公园,以及印第安人的图腾柱。该图片展在山东大学东校区综合服务楼前展出了一周,建筑上悬挂的大幅横幅吸引了学生们的注意。此后在山东大学软件园校区展出了5天。该校区有一个加拿大与中国联合办学的“中加班“,每年招收300名学生。两个校区的许多学生对图片展和非常感兴趣,通过的展示的大学形象和信息,他们对加拿大的大学有了较深的了解。“中加班”的学生渴望观看展出,以便提前对加拿大大学有个了解。为了充分利用这些来之不易的图片和信息,该图片展放在山东大学历史文化学院的网站上,长期供大家浏览。这些图片将放在2008年加拿大研究会第13届年会上展出。二、加拿大征文竞赛。活动组织者鼓励学生们以“我眼中的加拿大”为题用中文或英文进行写作,并编辑了100页的中文材料发给学生作为参考。该材料介绍了加拿大的历史、社会、文化、教育、经济、政治和福利计划等等,以便大家对加拿大有一个基本了解。组织者要求学生们就“加拿大的有效治理”、“人权保 Picture Exhibition at Software Campus of SDU障”、“福利计划”、“环境保护”、“教育”和“政治”等题目进行写作。该竞赛受到了广泛关注,在20天之内就收到了来自本科生和研究生的数百篇文章。组织者选择了其中最优秀的一部分,分别授予作者一、二、三等奖。在颁奖仪式上,受奖者被授予奖状、奖金和山东大学加拿大研究中心成员的两本著作。该活动增加了学生们对加拿大的认识,他们不仅要参照组织者提供的材料,还要阅读其他的文献和书籍,而且他们还必须进行大量思考,以明确加拿大的特征,并理解为什么中国需要在政府治理、社会计划和环境保护等方面向加拿大学习。三、加拿大电影欣赏。活动组织者与山东大学外国语学院网络教育部合作,准备了系列英语教育节目——“跟大山访问加拿大(一至三部)”,以及六部加拿大电影——《柳暗花明》、《叛逆女巫》、《征服者》、《消防犬》、《人猿特工》、《圣·拉尔夫》在活动期间进行放映。三月份每个周六晚间都会放映一到两部加拿大影片。几百名学生在教室中或通过外国语学院网络教学部的一个专门网站观看了影片。这些影片将长期置于在网站上供大家观看。该活动给了学生们一个了解加拿大艺术、加拿大人和加拿大社会的机会。学生们被影片中的故事深深地吸引,并被加拿大男女艺术家们的表演感动了。四、专题讲座。加拿大研究中心邀请了两位加拿大学者和一位中国学者开讲座。第一位是多伦多大学社会工作学院研究员黄志雄教授,其讲座题目为“加拿大社会计划和福利政策”;第二位是前加拿大外交事务部政治官员丹尼尔·考迪克(Daniel Koldyk)博士,其讲座题目为“东西方交流中的一些基本误解——我作为一个加拿大外交官的经历”;第三位是山东大学哲学和社会发展学院社会工作部主任、加拿大CCSEP学者高鉴国教授,其讲座题目为“高等教育和社会现代化:加拿大经验”。学者们谈了各自的研究成果,也谈到了个人在特定研究领域中的经验。参加讲座的学生们从这些学者的陈述以及他们对学生提问的回答中学到了很多知识。总之,这一系列的活动达到了预期的目的。它加强了高校学生对加拿大的了解。许多学生认为这是他们第一次接触到关于加拿大和加拿大人的详细知识,该活动让他们明白了加拿大在许多方面——如文化、社会、政治体系、社会计划和环境保护等等——与美国有着不同。他们感到加拿大宝贵经验对中国具有借鉴意义。一些学生还 说,他们很愿意去加拿大大学进一步深造,因为加拿大是一个有着多元文化社会的美丽的国家。(山东大学加拿大研究中心报道)
Canadian Studies Centre, Shandong University successfully carried out a series of activities in March, 2008. The activities is entitled Maple Leaf Country: A Series of Activities of Canadian Identity and Cultural Resources Exhibition which included the four parts as follows:1) Canadian Cultural Resources Exhibition. With great efforts the centre found more than 100 photos of Canadian universities and their logos, and nearly fifty photos of Canadian cities and tourist attraction. Based on the latest information on Canadian universities, caption was provided for each one or group of photos of 47 universities so that students could not only get an idea of what the universities look like but also know something about them---- the time when they were established, the city they were located, the number of students they recently enrolled and characteristics they have in education and research. The photo exhibition began with a table indicating the status of each Canadian university among the three categories evaluated by MacLean's, a famous Canadian magazine. A map was also produced to show the location of the universities in Canada In the city section photos of some largest Canadian cities such as Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Victoria, Edmonton, Winnipeg, St. Johns and Halifax were displayed, especially those of Vancouver City where the 2010 Winter Olympic Games will be held. 16 photos of Canadian tourist attraction were displayed including Banff National Park, Niagara Fall, Thousand Islands Lake, The Butchart Garden, Artillery Park, as well as Indian Totem Poles. For a week the picture exhibition was put in front of Dinning Hall of East Campus, Shandong University with a large streamer hanged on the building to draw attention from students. Prof. Gao Jianguo giving a lecture The exhibition was also displayed for 5 days at Software Campus of Shandong University where there is a “Canadian Higher Education Programme at Shandong University” which enrolls 300 students each year. Many students at both campuses were very interested in the photos and caption. The exhibition provided them with the images and information of Canadian universities and publicized to a large extent Canadian universities and cities among college students. Those who are in Canadian Higher Education Programme in Shandong University were eager to see the photos in order to know something about Canadian universities in advance. In order to take full advantage of the hard-earned photos and information we put exhibition on the website of School of History and Culture, Shandong University for longer time. It is also to be displayed at the 13th Conference of ACSC in November, 2008. 2) Writing Contest on Canada. The organizer encouraged students to write in Chinese or English in the title of “Canada in My Perspective”. 100-page materials in Chinese were edited and thousands copies were distributed to students. Knowledge on Canadian history, society, culture, education, economy, politics and welfare programme were introduced in the material so that student might get a basic idea on the aspects of Canada. The organizer asked students to pick up such topics as Canadian efficient governance, human rights guarantee, welfare programmes, environment protection, education and politics. The response to the contest was enthusiastic and within 20 days hundreds Dr. Daniel Koldyk giving a lecture papers in Chinese/English were received from undergraduates and graduate students. The organizer selected some best papers to award three kinds of prize to the writers. At award ceremony, each winner was given a certificate along with certain amount of bonus and two books written by the members of Canadian Studies Centre, Shangdong University. This activity expanded students’ knowledge about Canada because in writing they not only referred to the materials distributed but also read many articles and books so as to have a complete understanding of some specific aspects of Canada. They also thought a lot to find the characteristics of Canada and what China needed to learn from Canada in terms of governance, social programme, and environmental protection etc. 3) Canadian Movies Enjoying. Collaborating with Network Teaching Section of Foreign Language School, Shandong University the organizer found a series English teaching programme “Follow Dashan to visit Canada (I--III), and 6 Canadian films: Away .From .Her, 5ive Girls, Pathfinder, Firehouse Dog, Spymate and Saint Ralph. On every Sunday evening in March one or two Canadian films were shown. Hundreds students watched the films either in classroom or on a special website of Network Teaching Section of Foreign Language School. The film will be on the website for a long time so that students can watch them after the activity was over. This activity gave students a chance to know Canadian arts as well as Canadian people and society. Students were touched by the story of the films and carried away by performance of Canadian actors and actress. 4) Lectures on Special Topics. The Centre invited two visiting Canadian scholars and one Chinese scholars to give lectures to students. The first one was Prof. Huang Zhixiong, a research fellow of Social Work School, University of Toronto, whose topic was “Canadian Social Programmes and Welfare Policy”; the second one was Daniel Koldyk, doctoral candidate, Oxford University and former political officer of Department of Foreign Affairs, Canada, whose topic was “Some Fundamental Misunderstanding in Intercommunion between Orients and Occidentals: My Experiences as a Canadian Diplomat”; the third one is Prof. Gao Jianguo, Director of Social Work Department of School of Philosophy and Social Development, Shandong Prof. Li Wei awarding prize to the winner.University and CCSEP Scholar to Canada, whose topic was “Higher Education and Modernization of Society: Canadian Experiences”. They talk about their research result as well as personal experience in specific fields. Attending the lectures students learned a lot both from speakers’ presentation and their answer to the questions. In summary this series activities has reached the aim. It publicized Canada’s image among college students and strengthened their understanding of Canada. Many students indicate that it is the first time that they contacted in detail the knowledge about Canada and Canadian people and the activity let them know that Canada has something different from U.S. in many aspects such as cultures, society, political system and social programme and environment protection. They feet that Canada’s experiences are valuable and relevant to what are going on in China. Some of them said that they would like go to Canadian university to pursue further study since Canada is such a beautiful country with a multi-cultural society. 2. 山东大学加拿大研究中心于2008年5月邀请加拿大多伦多华谘处10人代表团前来访问(Canadian Studies Centre of Shandong University Inviting Delegation of Centre for Information and Community Services of Ontario, Canada to Visit Shandong University in May,2008)
5月21日至24日,在山东大学加拿大研究中心成员高鉴国教授的邀请下,加拿大多伦多华谘处行政总监梅伟思先生一行九人到山东大学,就社区服务、义工、社会工作教学培训等进行交流。多伦多华人咨询社区服务中心(简称“华谘处”)成立于1968年,现有115位全职员工,系当地最大的华人社会服务机构之一。其服务宗旨是协助移民及难民安居乐业,进而与当地社会融和,提供的服务包括移民定居、就业辅导、英语培训、学前及家庭教育、青少年服务、领袖训练及康乐活动等。华谘处对移民社群做出了贡献,因而获得了加拿大联邦政府移民部颁发的“杰出公民奖”。 21日,加研中心的李巍、高鉴国教授等与梅伟思先生一行在中心办公室召开了座谈会。李巍教授介绍了山东大学加研中心的工作和成果,梅伟思先生就多伦多华谘处的历史及开展的工作做了介绍,双方互赠礼品,并就开展合作达成共识。会后,宾主一行参观了山东大学校史展览馆和博物馆,并与中心成员方辉馆长/教授一起进行座谈。华谘处的来宾对山东大学的浓厚文化氛围给与高度的赞赏。22日上午,山大哲学与社会学学院社会学与社会工作系主任高鉴国教授与李芹教授陪同梅伟思先生一行参观了济南市营市街老年公寓和济南市社会福利院,了解到中国城市养老和儿童救助等方面的工作;华谘处的工作人员也介绍了自己的工作方式和经验,双方进行了友好的交流。下午,宾主一行到济南时报社与泉城义工联络站的工作人员就义工的招募、培训、管理、督导进行了座谈,并参加了泉城义工在社区的医疗义务服务和学生辅导服务。泉城义工的规模和服务的质量之好给来宾留下了很好的印象。此后两天中,梅伟思先生一行参观济南市的几个社区服务中心和山东大学在附属中学开办的我省第一个学校社会工作室外,还为哲学与社会发展学院的100多位师生做报告,并与社会学和社会工作系的部分教师和研究生进行座谈。此次华谘处来访,旨在扩大海内外华人社会服务机构之间的经验交流,弘扬传统中华 文化和服务精神,谋求全球化背景下的共同发展。四天的访问达成了预期的目标,不仅促进了双方的工作和经验交流,而且就双方工作人员的互访和合作取得了一致意见。(山东大学加拿大研究中心供稿)
At the invitation of Prof. Gao Jianguo, member of Canadian Studies Centre of Shandong University, Mr. Danny Mui, Executive Director of Centre for Information and Community Services of Ontario (CICS) and his group visited Shandong University on May 21-14, 2008. Their purpose is to exchange ideas and experience with the Chinese counterparts in teaching and training on community service, volunteers and social work. Established in 1968 and with 115 staff members now, CICS is one of the largest service centres for Chinese communities in Canada. It is to help immigrants and refugees to settle down and enter into mainstream society rapidly through offering settlement and employment service, English training service, early childhood programme, family education, youth development, leadership training and well-being activities etc. CISC has made so much contribution to immigrant communities that it was rewarded a “Excellent Citizen Medal” by Department of Citizenship and Immigration of Canadian Federal Government. On May 21, Prof. Li Wei and Prof. Gao Jianguo met Mr. Danny Mui and other 8 members of CICS in the office of Canadian Studies Center. Prof. Li briefed the work and achievements of the centre while Mr. Mui introduced the history and work of CICS. The two parties bestowed gifts to each other and Mr. Mui presenting gifts to Prof Fang and his staffmade a decision about cooperation in future. Afterwards they paid a visit to Museum of Shandong University and had a talk with Prof. Fang Hui, Director of Museum and member of Canadian Studies Centre. The guests of CICS appreciated highly the rich academic atmosphere of Shandong University. On the morning of 22, May Dean of Sociology and Soial Work Prof. Gao Jiaguo and Prof. Li Qin accompanied Mr. Mui and his group to Home for Senior Citizen of Yingshi Street and Jinan Welfare House. While having a preliminary understanding of programme of senior citizens and children salvation in China, the staff of CICS introduced their working and experience and had a friendly communication with their counterpart. In the afternoon they went to Jinan Times to discus with the staff of Jinan Liaison Station for Volunteers about how to deal with volunteers in terms of recruitment, training, administration and supervision. They also took part in volunteers’ The delegation visiting a senior citizen home community medical service and student tutor service and were deeply impressed by and variety and quality of volunteers services in Jinan. In the following two days Mr. Mui and his group visited several community service centres and Social Work Office opened by Shandong University at its attached Middle School, which was the first office of this kind in Shandong Province. They also delivered a report to 100 students and teachers at School of Philosophy and Social Development, Shandong University and had informal discussion with some teachers and graduates at Department of Sociology and Social Work. Delegation of CICS’ four-day visit has reached their expected aim. It expanded exchange and cooperation between social service institutions in China and Canada, carried forward traditional Chinese culture and service spirit, and contributed to the common development in the context of globalization. The first one was Prof. Huang Zhixiong, a research fellow of Social Work School, University of Toronto, whose topic was “Canadian Social Programmes and Welfare Policy”; the second one was Daniel Koldyk, doctoral candidate, Oxford University and former political officer of Department of Foreign Affairs, Canada, whose topic was “Some Fundamental Misunderstanding in Intercommunion between Orients and Occidentals: My Experiences as a Canadian Diplomat”; the third one is Prof. Gao Jianguo, Director of Social Work Department of School of Philosophy and Social Development, Shandong Prof. Li Wei awarding prize to the winner.University and CCSEP Scholar to Canada, whose topic was “Higher Education and Modernization of Society: Canadian Experiences”. They talk about their research result as well as personal experience in specific fields. Attending the lectures students learned a lot both from speakers’ presentation and their answer to the questions. In summary this series activities has reached the aim. It publicized Canada’s image among college students and strengthened their understanding of Canada. Many students indicate that it is the first time that they contacted in detail the knowledge about Canada and Canadian people and the activity let them know that Canada has something different from U.S. in many aspects such as cultures, society, political system and social programme and environment protection. They feet that Canada’s experiences are valuable and relevant to what are going on in China. Some of them said that they would like go to Canadian university to pursue further study since Canada is such a beautiful country with a multi-cultural society. 2. 山东大学加拿大研究中心于2008年5月邀请加拿大多伦多华谘处10人代表团前来访问(Canadian Studies Centre of Shandong University Inviting Delegation of Centre for Information and Community Services of Ontario, Canada to Visit Shandong University in May,2008)
5月21日至24日,在山东大学加拿大研究中心成员高鉴国教授的邀请下,加拿大多伦多华谘处行政总监梅伟思先生一行九人到山东大学,就社区服务、义工、社会工作教学培训等进行交流。多伦多华人咨询社区服务中心(简称“华谘处”)成立于1968年,现有115位全职员工,系当地最大的华人社会服务机构之一。其服务宗旨是协助移民及难民安居乐业,进而与当地社会融和,提供的服务包括移民定居、就业辅导、英语培训、学前及家庭教育、青少年服务、领袖训练及康乐活动等。华谘处对移民社群做出了贡献,因而获得了加拿大联邦政府移民部颁发的“杰出公民奖”。 21日,加研中心的李巍、高鉴国教授等与梅伟思先生一行在中心办公室召开了座谈会。李巍教授介绍了山东大学加研中心的工作和成果,梅伟思先生就多伦多华谘处的历史及开展的工作做了介绍,双方互赠礼品,并就开展合作达成共识。会后,宾主一行参观了山东大学校史展览馆和博物馆,并与中心成员方辉馆长/教授一起进行座谈。华谘处的来宾对山东大学的浓厚文化氛围给与高度的赞赏。22日上午,山大哲学与社会学学院社会学与社会工作系主任高鉴国教授与李芹教授陪同梅伟思先生一行参观了济南市营市街老年公寓和济南市社会福利院,了解到中国城市养老和儿童救助等方面的工作;华谘处的工作人员也介绍了自己的工作方式和经验,双方进行了友好的交流。下午,宾主一行到济南时报社与泉城义工联络站的工作人员就义工的招募、培训、管理、督导进行了座谈,并参加了泉城义工在社区的医疗义务服务和学生辅导服务。泉城义工的规模和服务的质量之好给来宾留下了很好的印象。此后两天中,梅伟思先生一行参观济南市的几个社区服务中心和山东大学在附属中学开办的我省第一个学校社会工作室外,还为哲学与社会发展学院的100多位师生做报告,并与社会学和社会工作系的部分教师和研究生进行座谈。此次华谘处来访,旨在扩大海内外华人社会服务机构之间的经验交流,弘扬传统中华 文化和服务精神,谋求全球化背景下的共同发展。四天的访问达成了预期的目标,不仅促进了双方的工作和经验交流,而且就双方工作人员的互访和合作取得了一致意见。(山东大学加拿大研究中心供稿)
At the invitation of Prof. Gao Jianguo, member of Canadian Studies Centre of Shandong University, Mr. Danny Mui, Executive Director of Centre for Information and Community Services of Ontario (CICS) and his group visited Shandong University on May 21-14, 2008. Their purpose is to exchange ideas and experience with the Chinese counterparts in teaching and training on community service, volunteers and social work. Established in 1968 and with 115 staff members now, CICS is one of the largest service centres for Chinese communities in Canada. It is to help immigrants and refugees to settle down and enter into mainstream society rapidly through offering settlement and employment service, English training service, early childhood programme, family education, youth development, leadership training and well-being activities etc. CISC has made so much contribution to immigrant communities that it was rewarded a “Excellent Citizen Medal” by Department of Citizenship and Immigration of Canadian Federal Government. On May 21, Prof. Li Wei and Prof. Gao Jianguo met Mr. Danny Mui and other 8 members of CICS in the office of Canadian Studies Center. Prof. Li briefed the work and achievements of the centre while Mr. Mui introduced the history and work of CICS. The two parties bestowed gifts to each other and Mr. Mui presenting gifts to Prof Fang and his staffmade a decision about cooperation in future. Afterwards they paid a visit to Museum of Shandong University and had a talk with Prof. Fang Hui, Director of Museum and member of Canadian Studies Centre. The guests of CICS appreciated highly the rich academic atmosphere of Shandong University. On the morning of 22, May Dean of Sociology and Soial Work Prof. Gao Jiaguo and Prof. Li Qin accompanied Mr. Mui and his group to Home for Senior Citizen of Yingshi Street and Jinan Welfare House. While having a preliminary understanding of programme of senior citizens and children salvation in China, the staff of CICS introduced their working and experience and had a friendly communication with their counterpart. In the afternoon they went to Jinan Times to discus with the staff of Jinan Liaison Station for Volunteers about how to deal with volunteers in terms of recruitment, training, administration and supervision. They also took part in volunteers’ The delegation visiting a senior citizen home community medical service and student tutor service and were deeply impressed by and variety and quality of volunteers services in Jinan. In the following two days Mr. Mui and his group visited several community service centres and Social Work Office opened by Shandong University at its attached Middle School, which was the first office of this kind in Shandong Province. They also delivered a report to 100 students and teachers at School of Philosophy and Social Development, Shandong University and had informal discussion with some teachers and graduates at Department of Sociology and Social Work. Delegation of CICS’ four-day visit has reached their expected aim. It expanded exchange and cooperation between social service institutions in China and Canada, carried forward traditional Chinese culture and service spirit, and contributed to the common development in the context of globalization.
