Established in 1984, the ACSC is a nation-wide organization to promote high quality research and teaching on Canada in China.  The ACSC has nearly 400 members who are from 43 Canadian Studies Centers and Programs across China. Most of them are based on top Chinese education institutions, such as Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, China University of Communications, Wuhan University, Shandong University, Nankai University, Lanzhou University, Sichuan University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and so on. The ACSC has played a positive role in widening the impact of Canada in China through organizing conferences/ workshops, conducting research, teaching courses and translating & publishing books on Canada.

In the past one and half years, the Secretariat of ACSC and some regional Canadian studies centers cooperated to hold various activities such as: the regional conference of “Facing pacific: Canada and China in the Era of Globalization”( November 2005, Nankai University), “Seminar on multiculturalism in Canada and China”(Liaoning Normal University); the activities like: “Canada in the eyes of middle school students in China”, publications such as A Handbook of Canadian Studies in China, Special Issue of the Execellent Graduate Thesis on Canadian Studies by Journal of History Teaching; the website building, the information collection of ACSC members, etc. All these Activities have greatly facilitated the communication between the Canadianists in China and around the world and paved the way for a successful development of Canadian Studies in China.

Reviewing the past experiences, the executive committee and all members of ACSC would like to promote the Canadian studies in China in two directions: to close the relations among the Canadianists in China and around the world; to broaden and deepen our research on Canada; to increase the influence of Canadian study in China, trying to get more and more scholars and ordinary Chinese people, especially young scholars, to be interested in Canada and learn more about a contemporary Canada.
